    Term Three

Our enquiry is: Why is it important to look after our planet?

This term, the children will be exploring the big question: “Why is it important to look after our planet?”

To help us investigate this, we will work through a series of mini enquiries:

    • What does it mean to be green?
    • Where are the greenest places on Earth?
    • What is it like to live in a rainforest/ desert/ ice cap?
    • How can we look after our planet?
    • How can we persuade everyone to become more sustainable?

Through videos, research, class discussions, and shared experiences, children will have the opportunity to reflect on these questions and develop their own.

    English

We will be doing daily reading and writing lessons based upon The Crown. These lessons will explore literary techniques, grammar, comprehension skills and provide opportunities to create fiction and non-fiction pieces of work. The class will be reading When the Mountains Roar as our class text.

    Maths

Across the term, the children will develop themselves as mathematicians. In Year 6, we will focus on fractions, decimals and percentages.  In Year 5 we will be exploring area and scaling, calculating with decimal fractions, factors, multiples and primes. We also will continue to have twice-weekly arithmetic practice to develop our fluency and speed.

    R.E

In R.E we will be answering the question ‘Why is it better to be there in person?’ discussions will be had around the importance of a place for worship.

    PSHE

This term’s unit is Health and Wellbeing
We will be focusing on how to look after our bodies physically and mentally.

    Home learning

For home learning, children should be doing the following every week:

    • Reading as often as possible – ideally 5 times a week
    • Practising Times-Tables on TT rockstars

    • Spelling Shed – games to play linked to this week’s spelling rule

Children have logins for the websites above in their reading records. Please let Mrs Brown or Mrs Collins know if your child needs another copy of their log-in details.

Year 6 – Your child has been given a SATS Reading Workbook. At the front of this book you will find a grid with the tasks, date due and date handed out. We thank you in advance for your support.
