Community Council

Community Council

The local tier of governance for each Priory Learning Trust School is undertaken by a Community Council. The Trust is particularly keen to emphasise the importance of each of the schools within their local community, so ensuring a strong link to the local community is fundamental to our approach. Schools are an important part of local democracy and the link between a strong community and a good school providing a high-quality education for that community cannot be underestimated.

Through their representation of different stakeholder groups (parents, staff, community), Community Councillors will have a strong understanding of the school and its community. The Community Councils feedback to trust leaders and trustees through formal, termly meetings. The Chairs’ Group coordinates agendas and programmes of work to ensure each council is able to provide valuable community insight and avoids duplication of work with the role of trustees and trust leaders. The council helps to provide a community, and in particular a parental perspective, on our schools, which helps both trust and school leaders to ensure that each school is rooted in its local community. Community Councils meet six times a year, to discuss topics important to the school and areas where a community perspective will help to improve the educational experience for children. Overall themes guide each meeting's agenda.

As a small village school, we share a Community Council and school leadership team with East Huntspill Primary and Pawlett Primary. This collaborative approach ensures a sharing of local community knowledge from each of our members that can benefit each school.
